The Process
Shirodhara is best done in the morning or evening and may begin with an Ayurvedic body massage (abhyangam). The procedure involves pouring about 2 liters of lukewarm oil over the forehead in a continuous, oscillating stream for 30 to 60 minutes. The oil’s pressure creates vibrations, penetrating the nervous system and improving blood circulation to the brain. This deeply restful procedure reduces stress hormones and provides relief from anxiety and related disorders, akin to the effects of meditation.
